Kannur’s most popular beach, Payyambalam is one of five beaches that the district is known for. Beaches play an important part in the town’s evenings which draw large crowds. Extending up to four kilometres, the golden sand, coconut trees and foamy waters continue to be as inviting as ever. Even though the beach is located within close proximity to the city, Payyambalam beach offers a serenity that is unmatched.
Waterbabies can swim and surf in the sea while children can make sandcastles as families laze on the golden sand, capturing pictures or just musing over the setting sun. The beach is also a venue for kite festivals in the summer. A public gym called ‘The Amphibian’ has been set up to motivate people to exercise, making Payyambalam beach the first in the country to have such a distinction. Children’s activities include rock climbing.
