This biographical museum has been designed in such a way that it provides a clear picture of the life of Hermann Gundert and his invaluable works. Gundert spent 20 years of his lifetime at this bungalow, dedicating them to his immeasurable works. Dr. Gundert played a pivotal role in publishing the first Malayalam dictionary in 1859, the first Malayalam newspaper Rajyasamacharam after which he brought out yet another newspaper Paschimodayam. He also started a school in the building in 1839.
A library has been set up at the museum in the name of Gundert’s grandson, Hermann Hesse, author of the Nobel prize winning work Siddhartha. The colonial bungalow has wide patios, large doors and other features reminiscent of the style prevalent during that era.
