Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary

Known as the 'Lifeline of Kannur', Aralam Wildlife sanctuary is spread over 55 km.'

It is situated on the Western Ghats and includes the Aralam, Kelakam and Kottiyoor villages. A hanging bridge takes you to the entrance of the sanctuary. The Central State Farm, known as one of the main production centres for coconut seeds, is based in Aralam village. The sanctuary has a watchtower which offers a stunning sight of the mountains, rivers and villages. Apart from elephants, gour, deer, langur, Malabar giant and leopards, the sanctuary is also home to many species of butterfly and has a park exclusively for winged beauties.

An interpretation centre provides visitors with a detailed picture of the area. One can engage a guide and choose from the various trekking options available or hire jeeps. Make sure to visit Katti Betta which, at 1145m, is the tallest peak in the area. Treks can also be included to nearby places such as Ambalapara - a three day adventure which includes an overnight stay at the Ambalapara watchtower.
